something fun and frivolous

Not my usual thing, but it was fun and I do intend to finish it...if you have any little kids it may give you a chuckle.

One day in Teletubbyland something appeared. The sky was blue and dotted with low clouds as usual. The sun, omnipresent, giggled with glee. It was a bluebell. Tinky Winky was amazed. It was too beautiful for words. He was so overcome with emotion he let out an audible, “Oooh.” He smelled the flowers. They were purple and smelled like candy. The smell worked at the back of his mind. It reminded him of…something. He couldn’t remember what it was. We tried to concentrate, but his thoughts were cloudy, unformed. The sun squealed, distracting him. Suddenly, there were bluebells everywhere. The hillsides filled with the sweet smell. What did it remind him of? He couldn’t say. But he felt very tired, all of a sudden.

It was time for tubby sponges. Tinky Winky was standing with Po, by the controls. The control lights blinked randomly, signifying nothing with their cheery display. Tinky Winky looked at La La. She was washing Dipsy’s feet. Dipsy was laying on his back, and kicking his legs, giggling. They were both giggling like crazy. A disembodied voice was repeating, “wash, wash, wash…“ It made Tinky Winky’s head hurt.

La La and Dipsy wouldn’t stop giggling. Tinky Winky felt an emotion he didn’t recognise, something small and sore. He didn’t like it. Then Po started laughing too, with mindless abandon. It was time for tubby toast, but Tinky Winky went to bed instead. He wasn’t hungry anymore, just tired. He scrunched up into a ball under the little silvery blanket and stayed there until he fell asleep some hours later.

Tinky Winky found himself in another place. Not so cheerful, full of buildings hung tight together and full of beings jostling one another on their way to he didn’t know where. A dingy rain fell. No one was laughing. They were all looking at there feet, or at nothing, careful not to meet anyone else’s eyes. Great machines passed now and again, looking something like the noo noo, but slick with rain, and hissing with steam. Tinky Winky noticed their hands. Strange hands, with several long digits, not soft round hands like his own. He was there with them in the dark and the rain. He was cold and afraid. There was a sharp blow to his shoulder, and pain. He hit back with something cold and hard in his hand. There was a great noise, and blood and screaming.

He woke up with a gasp and found himself in the Tubbytronic superdome. He sighed - he was still in his bed. He looked around at the other Tubbies, and laid back down to sleep.

I'm trying to remember the comments I tried to post before that seem to be missing...

I think I was talking about how I know this piece is a copyright issue if you wanted to do anything with it but even if it wasn't exactly the tubbies in their dome it still has something to it. I think the idea of keeping them in isolation and/or suits that keep them from really interacting with their word and/or drugs that make them think they're happy.

You could still use it for something really interesting. Aside from changing it, I like it as is, Tubbies included because it makes them even more disturbing. Heehee.

Oh, I know it's a copyright thing, but I just thought it was a fun thought to get out of my head and loose on the world. I've seen far too many episodes of the Teletubbies.
It makes a lot more sense if you consider it some kind of asylum for the criminally insane - a sort of Foucaultian (is that a word?) Panopticon.
I've decided that Tinky Winky is actually some kind of political prisoner...and the scene he remembers is the takedown when he gets caught by the teletubby gestapo (or whatever).
Anyway, I'm not sure if he escapes or not. Maybe he wouldn't want to? Maybe the situation on his homeworld is bad enough that it's preferable to be imprisoned.

Anyway as long as he doesn't eat the food then he can do pretty much whatever he wants to the other 3, since they're drugged silly. Maybe he could be eating the rabbits?

cheerio,
